Congratulations! We are sure you are excited about getting your braces on! Now what?
Getting braces is exciting, but sometimes, if you’re like us, you might feel a little anxious over something new. It’s all going to be okay! We are here to walk you through your orthodontic journey and help you know what to expect along the way. For one thing, it’s going to take a little bit of time to get used to having something new in your mouth. But it’s so worth it to get an amazing smile!
Did you know you can decorate your braces?
That’s right! During your regular braces checkup appointments, you can choose to leave your braces clear to let them blend in with your teeth, or you can choose to be bold and decorate them with colors. It’s all up to you!
The most important part of braces is taking good care of your teeth.
After all, this is a lifetime investment in your smile! You’ll want to make sure you are brushing and flossing regularly and as instructed. Watch these videos for detailed instructions on the best ways to care for your braces and teeth.
If you have been provided with special toothpaste, please follow these directions for use:
- Use once daily (preferably before going to sleep) in place of conventional toothpaste
- Apply a pea-sized amount and brush for two minutes
- After brushing, adults should spit. Ages 6-16 should spit & rinse their mouth thoroughly with water
- Do not eat or drink for 30 minutes after use.
When it comes to eating with braces, you’ll have to make some slight adjustments.

What should you do if something doesn’t feel right or is poking?
We have tips for that too! You may occasionally experience tenderness or soreness, especially in the first few days as you bite down or chew foods. It’s very normal and should be expected. Braces Help: Poking Wire
