As most of you know a few weeks ago our entire office took a trip to Orlando. And believe it or not, we didn’t go to one Disney park! So why in the world would we go to Orlando and not go to Disney? The main purpose was to attend the AAO annual meeting. But that’s not all we did, we managed to mix in a little R&R while there. The weather was amazing! When not in meetings a lot of us were able to go to Sea World, Universal Studios, a quick trip over to the beach, and of course pool lounging.
When it comes to work, I had a long to-do list and believe it or not, all items were checked off by the time we flew back. I gave a short presentation on orthodontics Saturday morning. I spent time at 3M’s booth in the exhibit hall each day as I occasionally speak on behalf of them at continuing education meetings. We were able to help a lot of orthodontists who are interested in learning how to change their offices to all-esthetic treatment, which I did 3 years ago.
I’m really excited to have purchased two new, live, state of the art intraoral video scanners. My goal is to no longer need gooey alginate impressions for any of my patients by the middle of the summer. How awesome is that? The dreaded impressions will soon be a thing of the past. To complement these I purchased a 3D model printer for my lab. Very exciting technology and we have a lot of learning to do soon!
I’ll be using new coated orthodontic wires that I found at the meeting, and new CLEAR ties to make braces look even better for our adult patients. We found new colorful rubber bands for our younger patients who like to show off their style, too.
Lastly I was able to meet up with a group of orthodontists who volunteer at St. Jude’s Hospital in the south part of St. Lucia. I’ll be joining their mission team and hope to make my first trip to the hospital this summer. I’ll let you know how it goes!
